Higher Land and Construction Costs
Doug Akers says:
“We have to be competitive with what people are seeing in their everyday lives, and that means our facilities must be competitive. That’s pushing up the cost of construction.”
Doug’s point is well taken. The quality of church construction should not be significantly less then what people are used to seeing from day to day. Consider your target audience, and plan accordingly. Since construction costs have risen dramatically over the last several years, make sure that the scope of the project you are envisioning is in line with what you can afford. Breaking your project into multiple phases allows you to improve or expand your facility without spending more then you can afford. Also, consider how your building can be updated over time. Finishes are typically relatively easy to upgrade, while structural elements are often difficult and costly to modify.Â
Tomorrow we’ll be looking at Trend 7: Building Community with Design.
