West Park Church of Deliverance - Philadelphia, PA

When artisans designed and built churches back in the 1800s, they did so to bring a sense of awe and wonder of God to those who entered the sanctuary. Soaring ceilings, tall columns, arches and detailed stained glass windows were a part of the structures that portrayed a sense of holiness and reverence. Today, it is difficult for churches to build this kind of structure because the costs are prohibitive. However, we recently had the privilege of helping a local church restore such a building.
West Park Church of Deliverance purchased the original Chestnut Street Baptist Church in the University City section of West Philadelphia. Constructed in 1896, this building was one of the largest churches in Philadelphia at that time. Over many years of serious decline and change in ownership the original structure deteriorated to the point at which it was in peril. The church was being used by a very small congregation, with 90 percent of the facility unused and uninhabited, when it was discovered by Pastor Terry Davis of West Park Church. We partnered with the church to restore and modernize the facility. Our job was to re-establish the structural integrity of the church, integrate electrical and Audio/ video systems, add air conditioning, heating, and plumbing systems, while maintaining the historic beauty of the building. The building was built in the Gothic revival style of architecture, and every effort was made to restore the original design in all its detail while transforming the space to accommodate a modern style of worship.
As you can see from the pictures, the final restoration is magnificent, and the congregation has an exceptional space in which to worship the King of kings and Lord of lords.
