Color Psychology

When designing a room, it is important to consider the impact color has, both psychologically and physiologically, on the people using the space. When selecting colors for a particular room, keep the affects of the four basic color groups in mind.
Red is a color that arouses emotion. It also induces hunger, making a café or restaurant an ideal place to use it. One must remember, however, that too much red can make a person irritable. ”Brick red” would be preferable to “fire engine red.”
Many people like yellow because it makes them feel warm and cheerful, but the wrong shade could make them frustrated. It is the most stressing color to the eyes. Studies have shown that babies tend to cry more in yellow rooms, so do not paint a nursery yellow.
Green is a good color for larger areas as it instills a sense of balance and calmness. It is also a good color for relieving stress. These attributes make it an excellent choice for children’s rooms.
Like green, blue brings the impression of calmness and comfort. However, the wrong shade can be cold and may make a person sad. Blue is the most unappetizing color. A person tends to be more productive in blue rooms making it a good choice for Office space.
