Sometime last year, we at WPH Architects for Ministry began to see the need to make clear what sets us apart from other companies that specialize in church facilities. Unlike most of these other companies, working for Christian churches and ministries is all we have done since our inception in 1985. We were formed with a vision to use our creative gifts and talents to serve churches, and that vision has not changed.
As the internet started to catch on, we secured the first dedicated web site for church design – www.ChurchArchitects.com(that was over 10 years ago!) Since that time, we have consistently been the number one result on major search engines when looking for architects that specialize in churches (excluding paid advertisers, that is). We were among the first firms in the country to be recognized as a Select Service Provider for Willow Creek Association member churches. After this recognition, we created another web site that gave away lots of valuable information about church planning and facilities to church leaders. (Most of that information has since been melded into this blog site.) Having worked with hundreds of churches, we consider ourselves among the leaders in this field. But with the decline in the economy, more and more architects and design-builders are claiming the same specialty and expertise. Increasingly, there is more competition for work. What, then, really sets us apart, makes us unique in the field? Why would a church want to select our company above another architect or design-builder? As a firm, we have spent significant time going through these questions so that we can make our distinctives clear to the churches that could benefit from working with us.
For the next several weeks, we will be adding content here that helps clarify what sets us apart. More than just clarifying what it is that makes us different, these entries will tell the story of how we endeavor to serve churches with facility needs. We know we are not the right firm for every church; our prayer is simply that God will keep connecting us with the churches and ministries that we are uniquely and best equipped to serve.
